Community Grant
COMMUNITY GRANT
Tier 1: Equipment grants of NZD$1,000.00 towards costs for your studies.
Tier 2: Bill payment grants of NZD$500.00 essential cost bill.
All applications must be received by SANITI – Student Association by 3PM Friday, 23 May 2025.
You can either email advocacysupport@saniti.co.nz with your application or hand it into the SANITI Office, N Block, Nelson Campus
What you need to apply:
- Fully completed application form
- Current bank statements
- Personal situation given
What the grant can fund:
- Clothes, shoes, eyeglasses, photo IDs, and driver’s licence fees.
- Rent, power bills, or cell phones
- GP bills, Counselling sessions, eye tests
What the grant wont fund:
- Incomplete applications
- Application with no evidence
- Tuition fees
- Already incurred costs or debt
- Mortgage payments
Terms and Conditions:
- No payment will be made to the applicant.
- Cash will not be given; funds will only be paid directly to a business or vendor on an invoice (applicant’s name must be on the invoice), OR goods will be purchased directly by SANITI.
- Applicants must supply four (4) current weeks of bank statements on all accounts. Name on the account must match the full name given in the personal details table on application form.
- Applicants must be a currently enrolled full-time NMIT student.
- Applications must not be currently employed by NMIT.
- Applicants must provide specific details of your personal situation; the statement must be at least 200 words.
- Information provided is a true and accurate record of students’ situation.
- Applications based on evidence of need and people’s efforts to address a situation.
- If the applicant knows of any conflicts of interest. E.g. Has received a scholarship through NMIT or another external organisation for study in 2025 or has a relationship with someone on the committee.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Aim of the Community Grants:The Community Grant provides one-off assistance to SANITI student members experiencing hardship. All complete applications are reviewed by a committee of three (3) members. The Committee’s decision is full and final, no correspondence about the decision will be entered. ALL fields must be completed by the applying ākonga/student for a grant.
